Hello, I’m Dave, The Owner of Quillsolo

We’re based in West Yorkshire, just a stones throw from Haworth, home of The Brontë Sisters.

My self-publishing journey began in 2004 when I started selling my e-book on eBay.

In those days an ebook was simply a PDF document (Kindle hadn’t yet arrived), but I soon realised a website would be a better idea, so I learned HTML & created my first ever website.

I sold my e-book for £19.99 and managed to sell around 2500 of them before I was advised to create a print version so it could be sold in bookshops like Waterstones – how naive I was!

I did manage to get it into some Waterstones stores, but that’s a story for another day. It took me 18 months to sell the 5000 copies I had printed (Print on Demand wasn’t really an option).

However… I needed to lower the price of the print version and after printing costs, shipping costs, and of course bookshop margins, it was a far less lucrative or enjoyable venture.

I’ve been building websites and working in online marketing ever since, and focus now on author web design, and helping authors & writers to promote themselves effectively online.

Stunning WordPress Websites For Authors & Writers

At Quillsolo we use WordPress as the core Content Management System (CMS), with Elementor Pro page builder for the design and layout of every website (including this one, of course!).

This combination means we can create pretty much anything you can conceive or imagine.

More importantly, they are both extremely easy to use, and exceptionally intuitive, and because WordPress powers around 40% of all websites, there are tutorials and videos for literally any question you might have.

Not that you’ll need them if you choose Quillsolo to build your author website, because we’ll always be here to help you.

We’ll take care of everything for you – all of the technical headaches, hosting, software licenses (Elementor Pro alone costs $49/year), software updates, daily backups, email, and unbeatable support.

We believe that WordPress is the best choice for any website because you are in complete control, WordPress is compatible with practically any hosting company, meaning you can move your site if, for example, your hosting company goes bust or becomes unreliable.

Other platforms like Squarespace require you to remain on Squarespace to keep your website, meaning you’re tied into not only their hosting but their prices and software limitations too.

With WordPress, Elementor Pro, & Quillsolo you’ve got the best of all worlds, with reliability, design, flexibility, security, functionality, and unbeatable support all baked in.

If you would like to know more about WordPress or Elementor, or our services then please feel free to contact us using the form at the bottom of this page.

Why Do Authors Need A Website?

You might be debating whether you really need a website. We believe it’s essential for an author to have a website for the following reasons:

  1. It allows you to have a central point of contact that contains all your information and details of your work, rather than it being dispersed across social media or on sites you don’t control.

  2. It makes it easier for people to find you in search engines, including, publishers, journalists, and the media.

  3. It helps you to build a deeper connection with your audience and to engage with them in a more personal way. You can also build a mailing list meaning you have direct contact with your readers.
